Bikita man kills mother in law, brother in law after quarrel with wife

BIKITA – In an incident that has left Bikita villagers tongue-tied, a man has been arrested after he killed his mother-in-law and brother-in-law after a quarrel with his wife last Thursday night.
Isau Komichi (44) of Tanyanyiwa village under Chief Mazungunye killed Sonika Mupura (69) and her son Farirepi Muchazvirega using a log, farm bricks and a wire to strangle the brother-in-law on the same night.
Komichi who reportedly always had quarrels with his wife had on the fateful night accused Susan Muchazvirega (38) of bewitching his leg.
Police Spokesperson Chief Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident.
“Murders due to domestic violence are on the increase. I want to urge the public to seek arbitration with friends or relatives whenever they have problems”, said Mazula.
Komichi is also understood to have complained against his in-laws for interfering in his family issues.
At around 9pm on Thursday, Komichi was in his bedroom together with his wife Susan and their six-year-old son. Komichi accused his wife of bewitching his left leg and allegedly assaulted Susan with open hands all over the body and threatened to kill her.
The six-year-old left and reported the matter to Susan’s mother whose homestead is 100 metres away. Mupura responded and went to resolve the matter accompanied by Komichi’s 12-year-old daughter who was sleeping together with her grandmother.
Komichi was angry to see his mother-in-law coming and he asked her to leave but as she did so, he allegedly followed her and assaulted her with a log, open hands and farm bricks and she bled profusely.
Farirepi noticed that his mother had taken long to come back so he decided to follow but was also assaulted by Komichi with a log and was struck
on the head with farm bricks.
He tried to run away but Komichi hooked him with a wire and  was killed 10 metres away from Komichi’s homestead.
Komichi’s 12-year-old daughter who witnessed the incident  ran and made a report to Farirepi’s wife Eunice Muponi and a report was made to the Police.
Komichi appeared before Magistrate Calisto Mutema on Monday for intial remand.
