    Notorious Shurugwi robber gets 6 years


    SHURUGWI - Erick Mdluli (21) popularly known as Ntomu who terrorised Shurugwi with his gang has been sentenced to 75 months in prison by Shurugwi resident magistrate Sangster Tavengwa. He was sentenced on Monday.
    Ntomu faced two counts of robbery, two counts of theft, three counts of assaults and two counts of unlawful entry and he and his gang walked away with a total of $9 945 from the robberies.
    One of his accomplices Timothy Madzimure pleaded not guilty to the charges and will now face trial.Ntomu was sentenced to 9 months in prison for the theft in Makusha where he stole $2 250, 13 months in prison for stealing $5 650 in Sebanga, 33 months for a robbery where they assaulted a couple and walked away with $2 000.
    He was sentenced to 9 months in prison for an assault where he used a machete and a knife at Cynthia Mine in Shurugwi and another nine months in which he used a shovel at Unki turn off.Ntomu, Madzimure and Nigel Mashavaidze are jointly charged for robbing Clever Simbi of $400. All pleaded not guilty to the offence and they will be tried on Friday (tomorrow). Ntomu is also jointly accused in the assault of Raymond Mugaviri at Wanderer Mine.
    Nigel Mashavaidze is facing a separate robbery charge for allegedly striking Edias Gumindoga with a machete and taking $24 from him. Madzimure is facing another charge of assaulting a Police officer Percy Msipa who attempted to arrest him on August 24, 2018.It is the state case that starting on an day unknown to the prosecutor Ntomu, Madzimure and Mashavaidzecommitted crimes of robbery, theft, assault, and unlawful entry.
