BEITBRIDGE – Some 100 MDC Alliance members held a clean -up campaign in Ward 4 in Beitbridge on Wednesday last week.
Morgan Ncube who is the Mayor for Beitbridge and Ward 4 MDC councilor said the clean- up campaign was launched on September 29, by party president Nelson Chamisa in Harare.
He added that the ‘smart city clean-up campaigns’ are meant to promote a clean environment and they will be doing the clean-ups every Wednesday.
‘This is just the beginning of a smart city campaign. We will be encouraging residents not to litter; we will design billboards, flyers to educate them to throw litter in bins so that we maintain cleanliness.
“Beitbridge is among the dirtiest and we are involving every resident irregardless of political affiliation in the campaign. Today we picked up litter in Ward 4 and we started at vegetable market near the bus terminus in Dulivhadzimu. We got some material from EMA and the local authority to use during our clean- up campaign” he said.
He urged residents to partake in the clean- up campaign and to report sewer bursts to the local authority.
