Mazambara High hit by shortage of accommodation

ZIMUTO– Mazambara High a boarding school in the outskirts of Masvingo in Zimuto area is facing serious shortage of staff and students accommodation forcing some of them to seek lodgings in surrounding substandard rural homes.
This was revealed by the school head Max Nemera during the annual speech and prize giving day recently which was attended by the district schools inspector for Masvingo, Ishamael Chigaba and prominent Masvingo born, Harare based lawyer Advocate Simon Mupindu.
“We have few houses to accommodate our teachers. Teachers are sharing houses and this is not a healthy situation especially in these modern times and we thus appeal for funding to build more to accommodate teachers in a convenient manner.
“Lack of boarding facilities has also seen our pupils, especially A Level pupils lodging in the surrounding communities susceptible to abuse,” said Nemera.
He also appealed for funding to fully equip the science lab, additional water tanks and for parents to pay their fees in time to enable the smooth running of the school.
Nemera paid tribute to parents, teachers and pupils for the improved results for both A and O Level where the school improved from 20% in 2016 to 25% in 2017 and from 95.8% to 94.6% for the later.
“There was also a great improvement in terms of quality with our best student in 2017, Cleopas Macheza getting 9 As and one C. The highest in A Level was also a head boy, Tennyson Mhaka who amassed 14 points. This is the best record at hand for our school,” said Nemera to a wild applause from parents and pupils who thronged the school for the function.
He also announced that mobile regulator, POTRAZ donated 15 laptops for their computer lab and WIFI to the school for use by teachers and pupils.
“We also boast of a vibrant piggery project that boosts the school’s coffers by money obtained from selling pigs. The school has also embarked on a fishery project mainly to assist non-formal students in paying their school fees. A bee keeping project and a tuckshop also assist in income generating for the school,” said Nemera.Wisdom Sithole received prizes in History O Level .
