MASVINGO-The 2018 edition of the Carling Black Label Pool (CBL) Tournament with a budget of $41 000 is set to commence with qualifiers running from October 20 to November 10 while national competitions have been slated for November 24 in Bulawayo.
This years’ edition has major shakeups to the administration of the games as provinces that are fully paid up with, Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) will manage their provincial tournaments according to the letter from the mother body this week.
“As part of devolution of the pool sport we have assigned compliant provinces to take charge of their CBL tournaments together with other compliant affiliates, the specific centres and the assigned provinces will be communicated directly to the provinces,” reads part of the notice.
This years’ qualifier editions will be held at 24 centres across the country and are expected to attract over 2, 150 participants the same as last year when it was expanded from 20 centres.
Eligible participants for the tournaments must be 18 years of age and above; players registered with ZIPA are not allowed to participate at the tournament as it will attract a punishment from the organisation.
“Any prospective participant shall be 18 years of age, if not their tokens will be disqualified. ZIPA registered players will face a stiff punishment if they participate in the competitions.
“All interested participants should produce either four cans, pints or quarts of Carling Black Label Beer at any centre where they will be issued with a non-refundable ZIPA token to register for the competitions.
“Once interested participants have tokens, they must produce their national identity cards, passport or drivers’ licence to register where they will be given a Delta Beverages printed T-shirt to wear during the course of the games,” reads part of the notice.
Registration will be done by ZIPA officials and participants are confined to participating one centre.
CBL Pool Tournaments are held annually by ZIPA and sponsored by Delta Beverages through its Carling Black Label Beer brand as part of its consumer-based initiatives.
Last year edition was won by Obedience Nyaumwe and Priscilla Chisoro who walked away with $ 1 000 each.
Superintendent Knowledge Nzombe for Masvingo Province said they are geared for this year’s tournament and wish to bring the trophy home for the first time in many years.
