New Roads Engineer for Masvingo Province

Mukome appointed Masvingo Province roads engineer

MASVINGO- Engineer Peter Robert Mukome has been appointed substantive provincial roads engineer for Masvingo with effect from July 23 2018.

Eng Makome replaces Eng Dhliwayo who was the provincial head until 2014 when he left for Harare and Eng Arnold Jeme has been acting in that capacity since then.

Mukome was the deputy provincial roads engineer for Mash Central Province before he was posted to Masvingo.

He was born in Mandianike Village in Nyanga and did his primary school at Pafiwa Mutasa in Mutasa District and went to Craneborne High School from 1995 to 2000.

Mukome enrolled at the University of Zimbabwe for a Bsc Honours in Civil Engineering and a Diploma in Projects Management with the Institute of Projects Management of Zimbabwe. He is also a holder of a Masters of Science in Commerce with the Great Zimbabwe University and a member of the Institute of Civil Engineering.

Soon after graduation he migrated to South Africa where he was heavily involved in the construction of 2010 World Cup stadiums and modernisation of the roads in preparation for the showcase.

After the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Mukome trekked back to Zimbabwe and joined the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development and was involved in the construction of the Manyame Bridge and the dualisation of the Harare-Norton Highway.

In 2012 he was transferred to Mash Central Province as deputy roads engineer and during his stint he was involved in quite a number of projects among them the 28km Bindura-Shamva Road which was commissioned recently, Jumbo Mine Road which links Harare and Bindura to the mine.

Mukome also initiated the construction of a pontoon (a flattish boat that relies on tubes to float while carrying goods) at Kanyemba Border Post with a landing bay to enable ferrying of goods from Zambia using a shorter route.

This will also enable those who are into car imports and other goods to use the route as it is 110km shorter than the Chirundu Border Post.

"My vision is turn around the fortunes of Masvingo Province through good road network as it is the backbone of any development that you can think of and that is only possible by working together with other stakeholders. Roads are the stimuli for socio-economic development," he added.

Mukome is the last born in a family of three boys and a girl and is married to Taurai Patience Mahonera and the couple is blessed with a boy and two girls.
