    $65 million for Masvingo roads rehabilitation


    MASVINGO – The Government has set aside US$65 m for the rehabilitation of 11 roads in Masvingo Province and work is already in progress, Masvingo Provincial Roads Engineer Peter Mukome has said.
    He said this during a tour of the Zimuto-Copota Road rehabilitation project recently. The funds for the project were recently disbursed by the Ministry of Finance.
    "We expect to complete rehabilitation work on all the 11 roads by mid 2019. We are working tirelessly to ensure that quality and deadlines of the roads are met," said Mukome.
    The main projects are the Mhandamambwe-Chivi-Tokwe Road where 48.2km are going to be covered at a cost of $16m; 12km of Rutenga-Boli Sango Road will undergo High Volume Construction at a cost of US$10m. 
    High Volume Construction is done for roads which have high traffic volumes.
    Rutenga-Zvishavane Road has 10km under High Volume Construction at a cost of US$7.5m. Gutu-Kurai Road is going to see 10km constructed under High Volume Construction for US$6m while 12km of Zimuto-Copota Road are under Low Cost Surfacing for US$5.6m and the project is expected to be finished by next month. One million dollars have been set aside for the maintenance of various roads.
    "Some projects have already begun and will be completed soon. Some are being advertised and we urge all prospective contractors to tender," added Mukome. 
    Some 12km under Gutu-Buhera Road will undergo High Volume Construction for US$7m; 5km of Makwi-Neshuro Road will undergo Low Cost Resurfacing for US$1, 5m and Lothian Triangle Road will have 11 km under rescaling for $600 000.
