Marovanyati Dam in Buhera under construcion.

BUHERA – The $33m Marovanyati Dam in Buhera is now 70% complete after President Emmerson Mnangagwa pledged during the election campaign season to have it on stream before the end of the rain season.
The construction of the dam has been on and off for the last 10 years and work resumed again after Mnangagwa took over Government in November 2017 and pledged to complete work before this December.
Zinwa corporate communications and marketing manager Marjorie Munyonga confirmed the progress.
Marovanyati which is 4 km north of Murambinda Growth Point along Mwerahari River has a capacity of 50 million cubic metres. Water from the Dam will be used to supply the growth point and Dorowa Mine. The dam will also support irrigation schemes.
Munyonga said that the contractors are currently working on the dam's intake tower, blasting of boulders, placing of the chimney drain, concrete placement and putting shutters on the right side wall of the valve box.
The contractor at the dam is Jiangxi International Corporation of China and Munyonga said payments to the contractor are now being done on time. Kudakwashe Mudzamiri one of the residents who talked to The Mirror said that he believes in Mnangagwa because he is delivering to them what he promised.
