Independent Zanu PF candidate to stand against Chinotimba

BUHERA – Ngonidzashe Mudekunye, a Zanu PF candidate disqualified from standing against Joseph Chinotimba in the Buhera South primary elections has declared that he would be standing as an independent candidate in the July 30 national elections.
Mudekunye confirmed that he will be running as an independent candidate and contest against Chinotimba who went uncontested in the primaries.
'I can confirm that I am running as an independent candidate in Buhera South after I failed to qualify to take part in the party's primary elections. I have many supporters who are rallying behind me and we are hopeful that things will turn out well for us," said Mudekunye.
Amos Marowa an aspiring councillor for ward 27 in Buhera South told The Mirror that he is one of the candidates who failed to participate in the Zanu PF primary elections and will also be contesting as an independent.
Marowa reiterated that most Zanu PF supporters in Buhera South are behind Mudekunye. He accused Chinotimba of being violent and abusive as he is selectively giving goodies based on who supports him in the constituency.
Efforts to get a comment from Chinotimba were fruitles.
"I can confirm that most people in Buhera South have vowed to give their vote to Mudekunye as an independent candidate because people now want a new leader who can deliver development and not victimisation. As for me I am also contesting as an independent candidate for ward 27 since I failed to participate in the primary elections because I supported Mudekunye," said Marowa.
Cde Godfrey Gondowe a war veteran told The Mirror in an interview that there is a tense atmosphere as Zanu PF supporters are now divided between Chinotimba and Mudekunye. He went on to say that the constituency is now marred by violence and people being denied access to food from Social Welfare just because they support Mudekenyu instead of Chinotimba.
