4 disgruntled MDC Alliance, 3 ZANU PF register as independents in Shurugwi

SHURUGWI – Four MDC Alliance candidates and three 3 ZANU who lost party primary elections have successfully registered to contest for the July 30 plebiscite in their respective wards.
The MDC candidates are Dickson Chioko Ward 2, Godfrey Marisa Ward 4, Bulle Madzitire Ward 11 and Pastor Saide Alubi Ward 12. The ZANU PF independents are sitting councillor for Ward 5 Davison Mapwanya, Mercy Midzi Ward 13 rural and Tawanda Mlilo Ward 10.
MDC T spokesperson for Midlands Munyaradzi Mutandavari confirmed the developments and said the independent candidates were not going to have much impact on the party's performance. He however, said that the independent candidates were going to be punished.
Bulle Madzitire confirmed that he is running as an independent candidate for ward 11 and said it was because of hate and divisive politics.
"I am an MDC cadre for life but at times you are pushed to the edge. In the run up to the primaries I personally funded party programs and that shows how much I love the party. I will contest as an independent and Chamisa remains my president," said Madzitire.
Mlilo said he was contesting as an independent because he was unfairly removed from the primaries.
Midzi said she was contesting as an independent candidate because she was sure she will win.
