    Selukwe Primary athlete gets scholarship from Bindura University


    SHURUGWI – Bindura University in Mash Central has awarded a full educational scholarship to a Grade 7 school pupil at Selukwe Primary School in Shurugwi following the juvenile's impressive performance in athletics.
    Anotida Tsvangira (13) attracted the attention of the Bindura University after winning four medals; two gold, one silver and one bronze at the National Association of Primary School Heads (NAPH) athletics competitions held at White City Stadium in  Bulawayo last term.
    The scholarship will take Anotida who lost his mother at a tender age to university and will choose the schools that he will attend.
    The medals were in 100m, 200m, 4 x 200m and high jump.
    Bindura University spokesperson said the institution was giving the scholarship because it wants to help children with such talent and this was the first time that the institution has given such an award.
    After winning at the NAPH competitions, Anotida will be one of the athletes to represent Zimbabwe at the COSASA games in Botswana. The juvenile is going back to the competitions for the second time in as many years, having won gold in the high jump at the COSASA games last year.
    Speaking in an interview from the school last week, Anotida said he was elated to get a scholarship from the Bindura University. He also said he was happy to be going to COSASA where he this time has hope to be succesful.
    "I am very grateful to Bindura University for noticing and acknowledging my talent and the opportunity that they have given me to further my studies. This acknowledgement inspires me to do even better at my next outing at COSASA and I hope to bring back more medals," said Anotida.
    Jessica Mazivazvose, Anotida's aunt said that as a family they were really happy and proud of Anotida because he was the first in the family to go far with athletics.
    "We are really proud of him. His mother died when he was very young and we took him in he has since made us proud as a family and we are supporting him all the way, we are thankful to Bindura University for awarding him a scholarship and I believe it will take him far, both academically and in the sporting world," said Mazivazvose
    Chiedza Madzokere, the head said the school was happy with Tsvangira's exploits not only because he won the medals but because he also puts the school on the map with a scholarship from a respected university.
    "We are happy that as a school we have produced an athlete of the calibre of Anotida. He has been exemplary and has set standards not only for Selukwe Primary but for the whole Midlands Province," said Madzokere.
