CHIVHU- Environment, Water and Climate Minister Oppah Muchinguri has said that weather forecasts by the Met Department for the 2017/2018 rain season were way off the mark and this saw many farmers missing it in their crop planting.
Muchinguri told a gathering at Dekete Primary School in Driefontein that the Met Department informed farmers that normal to above normal rainfall would be received from October to December last year and this was not the case in almost all places around the country.
"This year our forecast and God's plans on rainfall were not in sync. We were expecting 200mm in most parts of the country. However, contrary to the forecast, other areas received as low as 14 mm rainfall, way below the 75% of the normal rainfall."
She advised farmers that the rainfall received this year may not be enough to raise dam levels or sustain perennial small river flows.
Muchinguti urged Chirumanzu residents to conserve and utilise the Chinu marshes for tourism purposes. agriculture news
