Glory days beckon for Masvingo Utd

…as investors mull long term survival of the team

MASVINGO-Premiership giants Caps Utd's former chief executive officer Joe Makuvire has set his sights on the revival of the almost Masvingo Utd aka Una Una by calling upon all those with the team at heart to pull resources together.
Although he declined to reveal details of his pans he told The Mirror that there is a three pronged approach which will be launched after the ZIFA Eastern Region Division 1 annual general meeting set for March 24.
"We have a three pronged approach, that is the sporting strategy entails the setting up of the team and technical staff, social strategy where the team is heavily involved in the Masvingo community beyond the 90 minutes that they play football and the economic strategy which will ensure the survival of the Club is guaranteed by riding on the power of the community, the people with the Masvingo heritage, in the country and outside the country.
"We want to stop the tendency of clubs relying on one person for sponsorship and when the individual gets broke the club defunct as well. We are for the long term survival of the team and the blueprint will be launched after the region's AGM," said the veteran football administrator.
Makuvise declined to divulge how much they have invested in the team so far.
Una Una bounced back into D1 football after spending a year in the unfashionable Division 2 last year.
The team has also roped in six foreign players during the off season but will eventually settle for only three when the season begins said the Una Una team chairman Josphat Rwafa.
"We are now back in full force and we want to restore the team to its former glory through professional running of the people's club, supporters should throng the stadium every for exciting entertainment," said Rwafa after the Trianle FC match which they won 2-1.
Last week they drew one all with Premiership side Shabani Mine Fc before an appreciative crowd despite heavy rains that pounded the ancient city throughout the day.
