    Rape trial for prominent Buhera prophet starts

    BUHERA- The rape trial of prominent self-styled Buhera prophet Victor Chiminya (33) who is charged with raping a 15-year-old congregant has kicked off amid intense interest from the district's residents.
    Chiminya who is accused of raping and impregnating the girl appeared at Rusape Magistrate court on November 21, 2017 but pleaded not guilty to the charges.
    Chiminya of Chiminya Village under Chief Nyashanu and is a prophet at the Sangano Rajehova Apostolic Church appeared before Magistrate Livingstone Chipadza acused of raping the complainant on two different occasions.
    The complainant who was doing Form 2 at Ndongwe Secondary School resides at Ndongwe Village under Chief Nyashanu.
    Chiminya who is being represented by Taurai Khupe of Khupe Law Chambers accused a breakaway faction in the Church of framing him.
    It is the State case that on March 12, 2017 at around 10pm the accused was at the complainant's homestead for prayers. Accused then told the complainant that she had evil spirits and that there was need for her to have sexual intercourse with him as a way of cleansing her.
    He then raped her.
    On May 14, 2017 at Chimanye homestead Murambinda, the complainant was at a Church service with the accused and Chiminya began to call the congregants one by one in order to pray for them.
    The accused then called the complainant into the room where he told her to have sexual intercourse with him so as to cleanse the evil spirits.
    The matter came to light when the complainant became pregnant.
    The matter was postponed to November 30, 2017. Tirivanhu Mutyasira prosecuted.
