    Pote honours record breaking Chidyamakono girls’ soccer team


    CHIVI – Prominent Chivi born Zvishavane business mogul who owns Makanaka Investments, Dr Antony Clever Pote has donated $2 600 to record breaking Chidyamakono High School U15 girls' soccer team during the speech and prize giving ceremony held at the school last week on Friday.
    Chidyamakono girls' soccer team won the Copa Coca Cola U15 trophy a record four consecutive times from 2014 and Makanaka Investments t/a Pote Holdings represented by Tamson Mthombeni the general manager handed over $100 to each of the 22 players who took part in the competition this year with the technical staff led by Yeukai Chiruvu getting $200 each.
    Speaking at the Prize Giving Ceremony Mtombeni, who was representing the Patron of the U17 Girls Soccer team Dr Pote said they were proud to be associated with the school and the team.
    "We have enjoyed a very harmonious partnership with the Chivi community as evidenced by our sound relationship with Chidyamakono High School and other surrounding schools. The relationship between us and the school dates back to approximately four years.
    "Some may wonder why we want to work with schools, the reason is simple. We understand that entrepreneurial skills development starts in schools," said Mthombeni a former headmaster himself.
    School head Morrison Musorowegomo acknowledged the good work being done by Pote Holdings in the development of schools.
     Makanaka Investments has companies such as Pote Drilling, Pote Hotel, Pote Hardware and Pote Supermarket
    Meanwhile, the guest of honour, Chivi district administrator Chiedza Tafirei commended the school's pass rates in the 2016 academic year which were quite impressive.
    "In the academic field, pass rates of 43, 5% at O'Level and 86, 9% at A'level indicate an all-round sterling performance. To put icing on the cake, the O'level Commerce teacher Mr F Dunira and the A'level English Literature teacher, Mr Rugweda won the Provincial Merit Awards for best results in the rural day schools category," said Tafirei.
    Overall best students were Elizabeth Hamandishe Form One, Tsitsidzashe Mharadze  Form Two, Calisto Mangeya Form Three and Armson Nhamo Form Five all received prizes. Prizes were also issued in areas of punctuality, smartness, most disciplined and in sports.
    The function was also attended by Chief Madyangove, parents, teachers, former students, representatives from World Vision, Doves, and Eversharp among others.
