    Mirror correspondent wins Community Journalist Award

    4 mirror reporters snatch award in four successive years.

    HARARE – Nyasha Musambasi, a Mirror reporter based in Buhera has won The Best Female Journalist Award in recognition of youthful content published in a community paper.
    She becomes the fourth reporter from The Mirror stable to win the award after Ellen Mlambo in 2016 and Progress Sibanda in 2015 and Ruvimbo Chaibva in 2014.
    Musambasi who recently joined The Mirror after completing her degree programme from the Midlands State University received the award from the Youth Empowerment and Transformation Trust (YETT) at a colourful ceremony held at the Ambassador Hotel in Harare on Thursday night.
    Voluntary Media Council Zimbabwe (VMCZ) director Loughty Dube was the guest of honour.
    The other winners on the night from the Print category were Hazvinei Mwanaka of Newsday and Kudzai Mpangi of Sunday  News.
    YETT Programmes Officer Samantha Moyo said 856 stories were monitored on print, broadcast, online blogs and community print media from 61 journalists, 22 females and 39 males. Hence, female journos who covered the stories constituted 36%.
    The Youth Voice Journalist Awards are there to recognise a diverse media that creatively express the youth as agents of social change in their communities.
    YETT contracted independent observers who were monitoring journalists and their coverage on youth issues during the course of the year in the 10 provinces.
    "Youth Voice Awards has been running since 2014 to encourage journalists to recognise and reflect youth as positive drivers of social change in their respective communities," said Moyo.
    Mirror Editor Nkulumani Mlambo said he was not only happy that the award is a recognition of the quality news that the paper churns out but that the stable was creating solid opportunities for young journalists.
