    UK ladies donate 30 blankets to Masvingo Provincial Hosp

    Masvingo – A group of Zimbabwean women going by the name Daughters of the Soil has donated 30 blankets to Masvingo Provincial Hospital in a bid to alleviate the critical shortage of blankets for patients.
    Daughters of the Soil is a group which comprises of women who come from Masvingo or are married in Masvingo (daughters-in-law) and their children. The Face Book group is looking at registering itself as an organisation and doing several other projects to support Masvingo and its members. It also has plans to embark on business ventures.
    It currently has around 150 members dotted all over the UK.
    Last Mafuba who is the chairperson of the group said they raised the money to buy blankets after reading about problems faced by the hospital in The Mirror. The money was then sent to Waverly Blankets in Harare where the blankets were bought.
    The Mirror then connected the group to the General Hospital where the blankets were sent. 
    Seven hospital staff members, parents of some members of Daughters of the Soil and Placida Gonese representing The Mirror attended a small function at the Provincial Hospital where the blankets were presented two weeks ago.
    Masvingo Hospital public relations officer, Ruth Zulu expressed great appreciation at the donation. She said the gesture by the Daughters of the Soil was important as there is a realisation that anyone can fall ill including parents and relatives who are back home.
    She said that the hospital was experiencing a critical shortage of blankets.
    She said Mimosa, one of the biggest mines in the country was also assisting the hospital with the renovation of a laboratory.
