Mapeza meets Chapungu for the second time in PSL title decider

ZVISHAVANE – No-nonsense Platinum FC coach Norman 'Muchina Wemajuzi' Mapeza will for the second time in as many years meet Gweru based Airmen Chapungu Utd in a Premier Soccer League title decider after having done so at the same venue when he was with Monomotapa FC.
In 2008 Monomotapa needed a draw against Chapungu and they did just that and clinched the Premeirship for the first time and this time around Pure Platinum need a win to be certain of bagging the elusive championship which they missed on the last day of play last year.
Pure Platinum are in commanding position with 69 points compared to second placed Dynamos with 67 who are playing inconsistent Rahman Gumbo coached Chicken Inn FC on Sunday at the same time in Harare.
Dynamos can win the title if Pure Platinum falter to Chapungu or draw and they manage to beat Chicken Inn. They still can win the title on goal difference.
This is the third time that Chapungu will be in the thick of things for the title direction as last year they lost to eventual champions Caps Utd on the last day by a solitary goal scored by Simba Nhivi in the 6th minute at the same venue that may decide the title winners this year again.
This time Mapeza will meet his former assistant at FC Platinum who is enjoying his life at the Airmen as his team is expected to finish in the top 8.
"I cannot safely say that we have won the league yet because it is game on as we face an unpredictable Chapungu. I urge our fans to continue rallying behind the team until the final whistle on Sunday," said Mapeza.
On the other hand Chikuni who was bubbling with confidence when contacted for a comment promised fireworks and said his boys won't be pushovers as they would fight to the last minute.
"We are in our best shape now and I do not foresee a defeat in the coming match. If we win the game we end the season on a respectable position which is good for the club and myself as the coach. FC Platinum are a tough opponent but we have our way of doing things," said Chikuni.
Chapungu FC beat FC Platinum in their last clash at Mandava Stadium 1-0 during a Chibuku Super Cup match making the army side the third club to beat Platinum this year after Ngezi Platinum and Caps Utd in the Premiership.
Respectable Zvishavane based football analyst Emmanuel Gwenzi said Chikuni is the most vulnerable coach in the Midlands derby and FC Platinum will emerge triumphant.
"Chikuni is in a compromised position, firstly I am sure he will be happy to see a team from the Midlands Province winning the championship for the first time in the PSL history like everyone else from the province, secondly he is facing his former paymasters and they may capitalise on his technical weaknesses which they know quite well, lastly Platinum has been playing good football this year as they only tasted defeat twice throughout the season so come Sunday they will be crowned champions," said Gwenzi.
