MASVINGO- Moses Muputa a former classmate of the late John Makovah has won the Edward Makovah Meorial Golf Championship with 14 handicap on nett 139 gross 167 outclassing 40 other players who participated at the annual event.
The two day tournament was played on Saturday and Sunday last week at the Masvingo Golf Club where players from Harare and Masvingo took part.
On second position was Kudzai Chikwanda who scored 24 handicap nett 140 gross 188 and in third position was Brian Mberaja and fourth Cephas Ngwenya while Joseph Zawaira was on fifth position.
Rumbidzai  Mabhiza a very consistent participant at Masvingo Golf Club won the most golf off 36 handicap on net 177 gross 249.
Masvingo Sports Club former president Pascal Mudzikisi paid tribute to the Makovah family which was represented by Farai Makovah for maintaining the legacy of the late Edward Makovah who was a keen golfer and philanthropist.
Mudzikisi said the Edward Makovah memorial was started by the late John Makovah in honour of his uncle and for the benefit of charity organisations like Jairos Jiri, old people's homes and Capota School for the blind.
The tournament has since turned national after the recognition by the Zimbabwe Golf association.
Proceeds from the tournament were donated by the Murambwi Foundation to Mucheke High for school fees, Capota and the Mayor's Christmas Cheer Fund while the tournament was sponsored by PetromocExor, Oasis Water, Electrosales, Denenga Farm and Exor Holdings.
"I would like to thank the Masvingo golf community, the new committee and the sponsors for making this event successful. Let's keep the momentum and the fun, the Murambwi Foundation will match whatever has been raised here and donate to charity," said Farai Makovah.
Thomas Mbetu won a tablet during a raffle that was conducted by Jacquiline Makovah who is married to Farai.
In his closing remarks Stanley Kondogwe the Masvingo Golf Club captain thanked the Makovah family for an exciting event and promised that next year's event will be bigger and better.
