Blood donors demand Justice Smith resignation

    MIRROR REPORTER

MASVINGO – Blood donors from across the country have signed a petition calling for the immediate resignation of the long serving National Blood Service of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) board chairman, Rtd Justice George Smith.
The petitioners want Justice Smith to resign because they understand that he was trying to block the holding of an extra ordinary general meeting.
"We are told that you intend to block the Extra Ordinary General Meeting by filing new articles of association which will require 30 members to call an EGM.
"We are therefore demanding that you immediately resign with your whole board within 24 hours of receipt of this petition," reads part of the statement in possession of The Mirror.
The donors went on to say that if Justice Smith refuses to step down they shall withdraw their donations of blood thereby paralysing the operations of the voluntary lifesaving organisation.
The stand-off started after the board turned NBSZ into a private organisation and blood donors have also questioned the governance of the organisation.
Justice Smith has been chairman of the NBSZ for 40 years.
