GUTU- Guni Secondary School in Ward 27 under Chief Makore in Gutu received a shot in the arm as Clemence Masango a commissioner with the national tax collector ZIMRA donated four HP desktop computers and printers worth $3000.
The computers were handed over by the newly appointed Minister of State for Masvingo Province and MP for Gutu South Dr Paul Chimedza at a ceremony held at the school on Thursday last week.
The donation was done as part of supporting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in rural schools said Dr Chimedza at the handover ceremony which was also attended by hundreds of villagers including Chief Makore.
Dr Chimedza paid tribute to Masango for remembering his roots.
"It is only the lazy who despise development. I strongly believe that if the society were to do as you have done this country would never be the same.
"The problem with our educated children is that whenever they get rich all they think about is acquiring big houses and driving big cars in the capital forgetting where they came from. Real development starts at the grassroots level," said Dr Chimedza.
"I cannot call this a donation per ser; I would want to call this a token of appreciation to the community that helped me become who I am today. If it wasn't for your moral lessons, advice and help, this man standing before you would not be what he is today. I hope these computers will help to increase the pass rate of this school because computers are the in thing these days of information age," said Masango.
Before the donation by Masango the school had 13 computers and one printer said Chipiri Man'oro the acting head.
"I would like to thank Masango and our MP Dr Chimedza for this donation which will go a long way in quenching our technological thirst and improving our computer literacy at the school," said Man'oro.
