CHIKOMBA- Seven families residing at VeePlus Farm, some 10kms outside Chivhu along Gutu Road will be relocated soon as the place they stay has been identified as a source of quarry to be used for the dualisation of Harare – Beitbridge Highway.
The families will be resettled at a State land which is 900 metres away from their present location.
Ward 8 Councillor Wilfred Munyaradzi Manjere confirmed the development in an interview with The Mirror on Monday.
Manjere said the people who will run the quarry project have already made their intention known and have informed the affected community.
On  Friday Christmas Magunda one of the affected farmers sought clarification of the issue from the Minister of Lands and Rural Resettlement Douglas Mombeshora during a lands stakeholders meeting held at Chikomba Hall in Chivhu.
Magunda told the Minister that the farmers were approached by some people who introduced themselves as officials from the Ministry of Transport and were going to occupy their land for purposes of quarry extraction. He said the same officials pegged the land and took away samples of the rock
The farmers said they were promised new houses on relocation.
Minister Mombeshora however, said the issue did not fall under his portfolio and he referred questions to the Minister of Transport.
