CHIVHU – One suspect in a network of thieves believed to be on a spree of breaking into cars in Chivhu and stripping them of parts has been nabbed by the Police.
The thefts that baffled the small transit town will see more than 20 people coming to court as witnesses.
Evans Mafuta (32) of 14 Lords road in Chivhu was arrested two weeks after Police received a tip off that he had sold a stolen battery at a local hardware in Chivhu. He has since been remanded in custody to September 19, 2017.
Mafuta appeared before regional magistrate Ngoni Nduna last week.
Police received a tip off that Mafuta had sold a battery at Annualvest Hardware along York Street in Chivhu leading to his arrest. His accomplices are however, believed to be at large.
Allegations are that the accused person would break the small rear window of a targeted car and then open the doors to gain entry. The suspect together with accomplices would then open the bonnet to steal batteries and other parts.
The value of stolen parts is currently pegged at $1 840 with just $45 worth having been recovered.crime news
