    350 farmers attend Chikomba District Agricultural Show

    CHIKOMBA - Chikomba District Show this year was a major success after 350 farmers, an increase of 67,4% on the 209 from 2016 attended the show.
    There were 138 exhibitors and 677 exhibits and last year there were 58 exhibitors .
    The Show was held at Nharira which is about 31km from Chivhu.
    The good rains received last season, Command Agriculture and Presidential Input Scheme were among the reasons for the successful show said Gibson Tokotore who is the District Agricultural Extension Officer.
    The Mash East Provincial Show will be held on September 20 to 24 this year in Marondera.
    Farmers displayed their goods in four categories which include crops, horticulture, livestock and art and craft and they displayed varieties which include maize, rapoko, sorghum, velvet beans, soya beans, sweet potatoes, cooking sticks, racks among many other things.
    Chikomba District Agricultural Show chairman, Noel Majuru appealed for support for agricultural shows from the local authority, MPs and companies.

    He said in other districts, council chairmen, CEOs', MPs' and companies attended the district shows but in Chikomba it was different.
    The show was held under the theme; increased crop production through pest and disease control.
    Angela Ndoro (70) of ward 7, Featherstone was the overall winner at the show and received a cultivator, hat, T-shirt and 10 kgs maize seed. On second position was Alice Murwira who received 4kgs Agriseeds, hat and a t-shirt. Chokera Mutsimba of Gamanya, Wiltshire who was on position three got 2kgs Agriseed, t shirt and a hat.
    Judges were drawn from neighbouring Buhera District in Manicaland province.
    Seed companies which attended the show include Agriseed, National Tested Seeds, Syngenta, Seed co and Cottco.
    Ward 16 councilor  Michael  Mushure appreciated organisers of the show and urged farmers to continue working hard.
    Agriseed agronomy sales representative for Mash East and part of Manicaland Tatenda Brian Watambwa said his company had given every farmer who exhibited 2 kgs of Agriseed as a promotional way of thanking farmers
