BUHERA – The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will this week send an audit team to Makanda Primary School in Buhera after parents who are accusing the school head, Chamunorwa Mukazi of a litany of offences withdrew their children.
Buhera District Schools Inspector Godfrey Chimbwanda confirmed the problems at Makanda but said his office is still carrying out investigations. He said one of the actions that would be taken is to send a team of auditors to the school this week.
He said the Ministry was not sure whether the friction is between the teachers and the head or between the parents and the head. There was a demo by the parents on Thursday last week and Police kept a presence during the better part of the day.
An earlier attempt at demonstrating was stopped by the Police two weeks ago because the parents had not applied for permission.
A Mirror reporter who witnessed the demo later saw parents taking away their children home and threatening not to bring them back as long as the head was still in the school. The head was not in the school when the demo took place.
Parents accused Mukazi of always travelling and neglecting the grade 5 class that he teaches.
"The Ministry is still investigating the cause of this havoc. However, we have summoned auditors to go to Makanda to investigate how the funds are being used and they should be in the school anytime this week," said Chimbwanda.
The parents had a petition they wanted to submit to the District Schools Inspector who they hoped was going to pitch up at the school on the day of the demonstrations.
Mukazi could not be reached for a comment.
The deputy head at the school, Spiwe Tsedura tried to stop the demo without success.
Outgoing SDC vice chairperson, Ushe Nyamande (42) is one of the parents who removed his children from Makanda School.
The new SDC chairperson Estere Kambeva was also present during the demo.
