CHIKOMBA- Plans are afoot for Government to get a an investor who will demolish Chivhu Prison which is located at the centre of the CBD and construct a shopping mall in its place.
The same investor would then construct the prison at a ground to be identified outside town.
This was said by Chikomba West MP and Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mike Bimha when he addressed a Chikomba Full Council meeting on Friday last week.
He said that Chivhu was in an awkward position in which a prison was in the middle of the city while the Police station was located on the outskirts, far away from the people.
Although Bimha declined to open up to the media he told the meeting that discussions were already underway with an investor which he did not disclose.
He said he had also discussed the issue with Vice President and Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
He also hinted that a jobs boom was imminent in the small transit town as negotiations are currently taking place with a hair pieces and dressing company to establish a factory in Chivhu.
The meeting was also attended by Chikomba Central MP, Felix Mhona, Chief Nyoka and Chief Mtekedza.
