    Unlicensed driver kills 1, injures two juveniles


    CHIREDZI – One person died and two juveniles were seriously injured when an unlicensed driver lost control of his vehicle and hit pedestrians along Chiredzi`s Warth Street in Tshovani on Tuesday last week.
    The accident occurred in the morning while pupils were on their way to school. The driver whom witnesses believed was speeding later unsuccessfully tried to run away from hospital.
    Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to acquire drivers` licences before driving their newly acquired vehicles.
    She said the driver Tavanane Vunganai (33) popularly known in Chiredzi as Giftob lost control of his vehicle, a Toyota Corolla and hit pedestrians killing Lucia Kupani (44) on the spot and critically injuring a six year old girl and a 4 year boy who were going to school. She also said Police has pressed culpable homicide charges against Vunganai.
    "The incident happened on Tuesday morning when Vunganai was driving a Toyota Corolla along Warth Road towards Chiredzi`s Light Industry. He lost control of the vehicle near Salvation Army Church and veered off the road to the right and hit a tree and pedestrians
    The six-year old girl had a fractured libia on the left leg and was seriously injured on the head while the 4 year old boy suffered a fractured leg and a deep cut near his ear and both juveniles are in serious condition at Chiredzi Hospital," said Mazula.
