    Robbers attack, handcuff Mvuma Police officer


    MVUMA - A group of three daring thugs, assaulted a Police officer coming from duty at Chicken Slice in Mvuma at around 3am, handcuffed him and took his mobile phone before transferring money from his wallet for their personal use.
    The incident happened on Tuesday last week and the three Calvin Ndlovu (18) of Chemumvuri village headman Mbeka, Chief Njelele in Gokwe, Justice Mukandla (18) of the same village and Simbarashe Mungwanda (20) of Matoko village, Chief Serima in Gutu have since been sentenced to four years in prison each by Mvuma Magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda.
    The State case was that the officer Rexon Samu (32) was robbed by three men while coming from duty.
    On July 4 at around 0330am, the three accused persons met the complainant walking along an unnamed road near the District Administrator's compound and they assaulted him with a log, open hands, fists and booted feet all over his body and he fell to the ground.
    The three accused persons searched the complainant and took away his handcuffs, a torch, cellphone, satchel and $4.
    They handcuffed the complainant from behind and demanded his EcoCash Pin Number and he supplied a false one and they further assaulted him until he gave them the correct one. The complainant had $32 in his account.
    The accused persons took the complainant's property and left him handcuffed and lying on the ground.
    The complainant reported the matter at ZRP Mvuma and investigations by the Police with the help of Econet service providers led to the arrest of the three accused persons who had transfered $12.50 from the complainant's EcoCash account to Godwin Kanjoka, a commuter omnibus driver as payment for bus fare from Mavise to Gweru.
    Kanjoka was then ordered by ZRP Mvuma to surrender the three accused at ZRP Lalapanzi where they were found in possession of the complainant's cellphone, satchel and a torch.
    Six months were suspended for five years and a further six months on condition they restitute the complainant with $31.They will each serve an effective three years jail term.
