MP Omar to launch soccer tournament

MWENEZI – The MP for Mwenezi East Joosbi Omar has pledged to launch a soccer tournament in his area aimed at raising awareness on drug abuse, HIV and Aids as well as scouting for talent.
The tournament, dubbed "J S Omar Sport Foundation" will be launched during the first week of next month at Rutenga Business Centre.
Eight local social teams were selected from the constituency and these will face off at the tournament with the champions expected to get a floating trophy worth US$150, 00, four soccer balls and a soccer jersey.
The second team will get a uniform kit, two soccer balls and the other six remaining teams will each get uniforms.
Speaking on the sidelines of the victory celebrations held at Neshuro High School, Omar said he hoped the tournament will achieve its intended results.
"We are going to use the opportunity to scout for talent especially among young players. There is a lot of untapped talent but because these players are not visible talent is not identified.
Knox Mutsamba, the coordinator of tournament said the tournament is going to be an annual event.
