Extraordinary determination to become a Priest

    The story of Fr Zvemisha

MWENEZI – The calling and urge to serve the Son of Man can be unstoppable.
This came true at the ordination of Fr Donald Zvemisha of St Vitalis Neshuro Mission in Mwenezi on Saturday.
The story of Fr Zvemisha moved many. He has walked a winding and tortuous road to his ordination by Masvingo Diocese head, Bishop Michael Dixon Bhasera before thousands of Catholics.
His is a story of courage, humility, empathy, kindness and patience as he focussed on his goal to serve God.
Fr Zvemisha was born in Chiredzi. He decided to become a priest in Mutare and applied but the priest there would not approve his application.
Fr Zvemisha then moved to Masvingo where he applied to join the seminary and was gladly accepted. His father died when he was two years into the seminary and his mother faced with the daunting task of looking after his siblings pulled him out of the seminary.
She wanted him to look after his young brothers and sisters. He obliged and joined Bondolfi Teachers' College and trained as a teacher. After the training Fr Zvemisha went and worked at various schools in Gokwe for seven years and used his earnings to send his siblings to school untill all were through.
One of the sibling is now based in Namibia after completing his studies. Fr Zvemisha also built his mother a good house in Tshovani in Chiredzi.
    His earthly obligations were done.
He then went back again to the Church and sought clearance to resume his priesthood mission. He was once again gladly accepted and completed his priestly training. His mother however, still expressed her disapproval but Fr Zvemisha had played his part, he had shown respect to his parents according to 5th commandment and sent his siblings to school and build a home for his mother.
On Saturday, it was a joyous moment for him as he joined two .other colleagues, Fathers Kudzai Bakuri and Cephas Manyanye in ordination.
The event was without incident though as his mother still wanted to publicly express her displeasure but it was Fr Zvemisha's story that not only gripped the congregants but greatly inspired many.
The newly ordained priests are Kudzai Bakuri, Donald Zvemisha and Cephas Manyanye.
Father Hilario Tauyanago gave the sermon and asked for the right attitude and commitment from the new priests.
''It was a successful day and we want to thank the parishioners of St Vitalis Neshuro Misson for hosting such a big gathering considering that this is such a small mission. The number of priests in the Catholic Diocese of Masvingo has increased," said Fr Nyatsanza.
