MASVINGO - The tightly contested Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival provincial finals came to an end with eight groups battling it out for the first prize at Farai Beerhall in Masvingo's oldest suburb of Mucheke recently.
Only one was adjudged the best and will represent the province at the national finals to be held in Bulawayo on August 5, 2017.
The group is none other than Masvingo Rural based Dzimbabwe-Bira Dance Group who dazzled the appreciative crowd with their traditional fancy footwork.
For their effort the group walked away $300 richer.
Triangle-based cultural group Kamba Shangara came second and went back home $200 richer while Ivhu Inhaka from Great Zimbabwe Monuments landed the third spot and received $150.
Delta Beverages sales development manager, Tafadzwa Chisango said that they are now gearing up for the upcoming "Chibuku Road to Fame" which is meant to promote upcoming artists who have not released a single album in their career.
"Masvingo is a hub of cultural value as it is home to our sacred national monument Dzimbahwe, so we expected the event to be fireworks as seen here today,"said Chisango.
Other groups who participated pocketed $100 each and these were Guhudza from Chivi, Matande Rufaro from Mwenezi, Masvingo Teachers College, Khambako from Chiredzi and Gango from Masvingo who showcased their exhilarating traditional dances.
Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA) president Kennedy Kachuruka was impressed with the way the festival was conducted.
"Masvingo never disappoints and this is the spirit we are looking for, we thank all the groups which participated. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the Masvingo community for drinking Chibuku Super to their best," said Kachuruka.
Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival, which has been running since 1963, is a tripartite partnership involving ZNTDA, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Delta Beverages.
The national finals will be held in Bulawayo at the White City Stadium and the winners will get $7 000, second position $5 000 and $3 000 for the group that comes third.
