    Buhera schools dominate POTRAZ letter writing competitions

    NYASHANU – Buhera District was the toast of Potraz Manicaland Letter Writing Competitions for Young People organised by the Postal Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) when its schools got pole and second position respectively.
    The results of the letter writing competitions were announced at an event held at Nyashanu High School on Monday. This was the 46th International letter writing competition held at a provincial level.
    Cheryl Chinomona, a Form 1 student at Nyashanu High School emerged the best letter writer and won the competitions; the second winner was Aliyah Saidi a Form 4 student at Makumbe High School while the third prize, the only one that went out of Buhera District was won by Chiedza Kuzomba, a Form 2 student at Hillcrest College.
    Hillcrest College is in Mutasa District.
    Kuzomba walked away with $100 in cash, stationary and a certificate while her school was given textbooks worth $100, a bronze shield and a certificate.
    Saidi walked away with $200 in cash, stationary and a certificate while the school got a silver shield, a certificate and textbooks worth $200. Chinomona got $300 in cash, a hamper worth $50 and a certificate while Nyashanu High received a gold shield, textbooks worth $300 and a certificate.
    The parents of the three winners were present at the ceremony held in the school's main hall.
    Chinomona said she did not expect to win the provincial competitions as there were older students who also partcipated.
    "I could not believe it when my school head Mr Daniel Jeche told me that I was the champion. I am elated to win this competition," said Chinomona who was all smiles.
    Chinomona's parents, Innocent and Babra Chinomona who were present at the ceremony said they were proud of their daughter for what she had achieved and thanked God for the brilliant child.
    The headmaster for Nyashanu High school, Daniel Jeche expressed his gratitude and excitement for what Chinomona had done.
    "I congratulate Chinomona for putting the school's name on the map. Her achievement is good for her and for the school,," said Jeche.
    Makumbe High head, Honest Chiremba was also elated by his student who received the second prize.
    POTRAZ was represented by the director for Postal and Courier Services, Kennedy Dewera who brought with him Justin Magwaza and Lilian Chanakira.
    Dewera urged the headmasters and parents to continue supporting their students to take part in these competitions because it helps them sharpen their minds and their way of thinking.
    Also present was Tirivanhu Mutomba, the Schools Inspector for Buhera West who was representing the District Schools Inspector, Godfrey Chimbwanda.
