CHIVHU – In a clear case of intolerance and lawlessness, a residents association in Chivhu which is believed to be aligned to Zanu PF went in and disrupted a workshop that was being conducted by another Chivhu residents association.
Chikomba Residents and Rate Payers Alliance (CRPPA) organised a workshop run by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) at a local hotel on Tuesday.
However, as the workshop was going on members of Chikomba Residents and Rate Payers Association whose executive is predominantly Zanu PF came and disrupted the meeting and insulted representatives of ZLHR.
In violation of the constitution of Zimbabwe, the Association told ZLHR officials that the Association was the only organisation that was supposed to exist in Chivhu because they were allegedly elected by the people. They said that there was no need for ZLHR to conduct workshops in Chivhu.
Police had to intervene to stop the disruptions. Chief Mtekedza also assisted in stopping the disruptions.
Chief Mtekedza condemned the lawlessness and said residents must actually embrace the opportunity to gain knowledge from the lawyers.
CRRPA secretary general David Marufu said the workshop was to conscientise residents on their rights and responsibilities with a view to reduce crime by residents and violation of rights.
He said they engaged ZLHR to seek advice on how to deal with problems to do with ZESA, ZINWA, health issues and traditional leadership among others.
CHIRRA chairman Collen Zvarevashe also condemned the disruptions.
ZLHR representative said his organisation will come back to carry out a workshop for vendors in Chivhu.
