MATAGA - The MDC T which is weary of losing Parliamentary elections in all four Mberengwa constituencies has launched the Bereka Mwana Tiende Campaign which is aimed at recruiting and protecting the party's vote.
The MDC T believes that it has lost all elections in Mberengwa since 2 000 because of intimidation and untold violence by Zanu PF activists. One key message during the campaign was that MDC T youth were going to defend themselves against violence.
The 'Bereka Mwana' Campaign was launched at Mataga Growth Point onJune 4, 2017 at an event where there was a huge turn out of MDC T youth.
The youth also warned chiefs against becoming Zanu PF agents.
MDC national youth spokesperson Brian Dube said the well attended event signified a turnaround of political fortunes in Mberengwa. He said youth were afraid to join the MDC T because of victimisation.
"All our district members across Mberengwa were in attendance and I want to comment the large turnout by youths from Mberengwa South constituency. For years Zanu PF members have been terrorising our members but this time around we have encouraged our youths to be resilient in order to win the struggle," said Dube.
The 'Bereka Mwana' Campaign was launched by the MDC youth assembly early this year and seeks to increase participation of youths in politics through voter registration and voter education programs. The campaign is supported by a theme "To recruit and vote then to defend your vote".
Mberengwa South youth Chairman Batsirai Masendu said youths must be allowed to exercise their democratic rights without fear and warned chiefs to dessist from acting as Zanu PF agents.
