• Mahofa accuses Govt for neglecting war veterans
CHIREDZI – Government has set aside 25 000 hectares of land at Tokwe-Mukosi Dam to resettle victims of the floods caused by the dam.
This was said by the Minister of State for Masvingo, Shuvai Mahofa at a Zanu PF inter-party district meeting held in Chiredzi on Saturday.
Mahofa said the allocation which is intended to empower the victims will start any time soon.
"Our first priority are people from Chivi and Masvingo who were displaced as a result of the construction of the dam. We have 25 000 hectares of land to settle them.
"We want people to start realising the benefits of the dam, through various projects. We want farming issues and not fighting each other," said Mahofa.
She added that war veterans would be the next group to benefit from the same 25 000 hectares.
"I want a good list from the war veterans. You will be the next to be allocated land after the flood victims.
"It pains me to see war veterans wearing torn clothes. That is a sign that we have neglected you as your leaders," said Mahofa.
She deplored the treatment that war veterans were getting from Government and said God could punish the country's leadership for that.
"That war veterans have been ill-treated is something that I have said before and I don't care whether anyone likes my statement or not. I said this in Chivi that we have not yet done good things for you as war veterans.
"We want to give you projects that will improve your lives and enable you to enjoy benefits for your toil for the liberation of this country," said Mahofa.
