CHIKOMBA – A mineworker from Sadza District in Mash East was trapped by detectives from Chivhu CID last week when he allegedly tried to sell his eight-year old daughter for $20 000 to 'South African body parts traffickers'.
Tapiwa Vhutani (27) of Chikunguwo Village, Chief Neshangwe Chivhu wanted to use the money to buy a gold mine in Kadoma, according to the State.
He was arrested just after delivering the daughter to men he believed were body parts traffickers and receiving $12 000 for the girl. The incident happened at a lodge in Chivhu.
The matter left people gathered at Chivhu Magistrate Courts shocked when the accused appeared for initial remand.
Magistrate Winfilda Tiyatara remanded Vhutani who is being charged with conspiracy to murder to June 13, 2017 when his case will be heard at the High Court.
It is the State case that sometime in March 2017 Vhutani who works in Kadoma at a mine sent a message to a Chivhu businessman Olla Juru asking him if he could buy children for rituals. Vhutani wanted to sell his daughter who resides with her grandmother at Yuli Farm in Wedza.
He pestered Juru until the businessman approached the Police with the matter.
On May 27, Vhutani asked Juru if he had managed to get him a buyer and Juru indicated that he had found him prospective buyers from South Africa and that he could meet them in Chivhu on May 29, this year.
On that date the accused was introduced to detectives of CID Chivhu who disguised themselves as potential buyers of the child. Vhutani repeated his statement to the detectives and said that he was selling his daughter for $20 000 but the detectives negotiated with him until they brought down the figure to $12 000.
Vhutani indicated that he did not have enough bus fare to collect the child from Hwedza and he asked for $20 for bus fare which he was given.
The accused person went on to Yuli farm, Wedza and collected the child from Josiah Marume (30) who was her custodian of the child after the accused person  with the mother of the child.
On May 30, a trap was set and the accused person was arrested after having handed over his child to the detectives and also after receiving marked money.crime news
