ZVISHAVANE – Travelers are facing serious transport problems in Zvishavane and Mberengwa after kombi operators docked their vehicles in protest against the high number of road blocks on their roads.
They are having to content with as many as four roadblocks in a space of 20km and the heavy fines have seen them making huge losses.
In an interview with The Mirror, Zvishavane Transporters Association vice chairperson Thompson Siwela said the Police action has become a form of lawlessness.
"Some of the officers do not care whether a vehicle has all required documents as they always look for other faults leading to the escalation of corruption," he said
Zvishavane Transporters Association Sec General  Tanaka Mapfumo said,  "Our major problems are that we are failing to service our vehicles, unable to update ZIMRA returns and our drivers are failing to do retests because of the roadblocks. Even if one has all documents they always find a fault," he said.
A meeting between operators and the Police was held last Thursday where the police promised to look into the matter.
Officer in charge Zvishavane Inspector Kota Mhike said he was aware of the meeting held between motorists and the Police but could not say much as he did not attend the meeting.
