MASVINGO – Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) students and staff (Masvingo Campus) went on a clean-up campaign of Masvingo town on Saturday as part of their institution's corporate social responsibility.
The group swept and picked litter at some of the town's dirtiest places such as Chitima Market.
ZOU acting Regional Director, Professor Patrick Chadamoyo said his institution is a community based and is geared to maintain community values in terms of cleanliness and health. He said the purpose of the clean-up was to remind the community of the importance of cleanliness.
"We are a community based institution, geared to maintain community values in terms of cleanliness, health and environmental tidiness. Our objective is to make the community aware that environmental health and environmental cleanliness are important. That is why we mobilised our students to come and be part of the community in maintaining cleanliness.
"We will continue to carry out such activities not only cleaning but visiting disadvantaged communities like children`s homes," said Chadamoyo.
Masvingo Campus Student Representative, Ephraim Gonye said his committee will continue mobilising students to take part in clean-ups.
