CHIKOMBA - Two ZBC employees coming from the commissioning of the Tokwe-Mukosi Dam by President Mugabe were robbed of a pistol and $1 500 at a lay bye 20km from Chivhu towards Harare, The Mirror can reveal.
The incident happened at around 11am on Friday. Efforts to get a comment from Police General Headquarters were fruitless but some Police sources confirmed the incident.
Chief Superitendent Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment as his mobile phone was unreachable up to the time of going to Press.
Sources told The Mirror that ZBC driver Muchenje Denhere (45) and security officer Elijah Mukonho (62) who were in a Mercedes Benz with no registration number stopped at a lay bye to relieve themselves.
They went into the bush in different directions and after a short while Mukonho heard Denhere shouting and went to find out what was happening. He also fell into the trap and the two got their hands tied and searched for money and mobile phones which were collected and taken away.
The robbers also went to the vehicle where they collected valuables including a Norico pistol.
A ZBC vehicle that was following behind arrived immediately afterwards but the robbers ran away and escaped into the bush.
