ZVISHAVANE - Former Nkayi Resident Magistrate Thabenkulu Dube (46) who failed to meet a court order to clear $1 440 maintenance arrears is now serving a 30-day prison term after appearing at Zvishavane Magistrates Court on Friday last week.
Dube had an order to pay $50 maintenance per month for a child he has with Juana Chavarika but he ignored it for more than two years and this saw the debt ballooning to $1 440.
He was dragged to court on March 30, 2017 and ordered to settle the debt in 31 days but when he was brought to court on May 12 he again had not settled the debt.
Appearing before Magistrate, Achy Wochiunga, Dube then pompously offered to pay $50.
Magistrate Wochiunga had no time for that and he sent the fellow-professional to the cooler for 30 days. Dube is now serving his prison term at Zvishavane Prison.
Sheilla Mupindu represented the State.
