MARONDERA- The NPP (Mash East Province) held its first meeting on Saturday to lay the foundation for the preparation of the party's national convention whose date is still to be confirmed.
NPP Mashonaland East provincial chairman Taurayi Pasirayi confirmed the meeting and said 11 members of the National Executive council and guests from Mash Central also attended.
Mash Central provincial chair Godfrey Chimombe was the guest of honour.
Various issues were discussed including the Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) signed with the MDC-T.
"Taking a cue from the National Executive Council meeting on Friday, committees were set up to drive preparations for the convention," said Pasirayi.
He said the provincial leadership has set up similar committees with the mandate to ensure the smooth preparations for the event set to draw thousands of delegates from all the four corners of the country.
He said the issue of the MOU that had appeared to cause confusion within the party with some members reportedly showing signs of tiring on mobilisation was discussed.
He said it was stated clearly and unambiguously during the meeting, that the MOU signed with MDC was merely a road map for a proposed coalition and that NPP had not joined Tsvangirai's party as some reports suggested.
It was also clarified that Mujuru remains the party's presidential candidate for 2018.news
