MASVINGO- Cephas Ngwenya (42) was the toast of the day with 155 gross score over 36 holes playing off 5 handicap,in the Masvingo golf club annual championship tourney held at the club which ran from May 6 to 7, 2017.
Ngwenya who is also a manager at Masvingo sports club, proved beyond doubt that he is a force to reckon with on the golf course as he has managed to win the trophy for six successive years since 2012.
Enchanted by the performance displayed by golfers, Masvingo golf club captain Stanley Kondongwe,who also took the honour of handing over the prizes to winners said: "Simply the best won the price, and hopefully we will keep the spirit of golf alive and blazing".
The tournament, which is an annual event sanctioned by the Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA), was played under stroke play format and saw ten players battling it out for the accolades.
Other best performers were Augustine Chinyengetere who was first runner up with 176 gross playing off 8 handicap, Pascal Mudzikisi the second runner up, playing off 10 handicap on 177 gross, Moses Maputa who became third runner upon 191 gross playing off 13 handicap and Mike Manyeka the fourth runner up playing off 15 handicap on 193 gross.
In his victory speech Ngwenya said: "I'm delighted to be the champion again, but my sincere gratitude goes to Thomas Mbetu for a job well done in keeping the golf course in good shape".
Ngwenya added that members of the club should take it upon themselves to recruit more players to the number one sport and maintain the legacy of a successful and vibrant golf club.
