MASVINGO – Leading courier company DHL Express whose management team was in Masvingo to meet clients at the weekend, left toddlers at Ratidzo Children's Home with smiles on their faces after they donated various goods to make their stay at the home more comfortable.
DHL Zimbabwe Mananging Director Jeff Phiri handed over bathing towels, sheets, pillow cases and colouring books to the home during a tour on Friday.
Phiri said his company is heavily involved in social responsibility activities which target disadvantaged people in society.
He said the donation to Ratidzo is only the beginning as more homes will benefit in future programmes which will be rolled out by the company.
"We are here to handover this donation which might look big or small but our aim is to let the disadvantaged in our society not feel neglected. Well known donors tend to forget this home that's why we chose it and we hope to lend our hand to other orphanages and homes since this is just the beginning in this province," said Phiri.
Sister Bernada Chadenga, a nurse at the orphanage said the donation will go a long way since there was a shortage of sheets, bathing towels and pillow cases. She thanked DHL for identifying their home for the critical donation.
"We are happy with this donation since it will go a long way in alleviating some of the problems which we faced in the home. We also feel honoured to be the only home identified by DHL" said Chadenga.
Addressing a cocktail party hosted for the company's customers at Flamboyant Hotel, Phiri said Masvingo is one of the towns with high business as far as courier services is concerned. He said his company will train 50 SMEs per province to equip them with skills to professionally run their businesses.
