CHIVHU - A Police officer based in Chivhu, Luckson Chikuwa (23) has appeared in court accused of stealing a G-tel mobile phone from a workmate.
Chikuwa appeared before Resident Magistrate Story Rushambwa on Wednesday and the phone belonged to Sibukisiwe Ndlovu (29) who resides at the Chivhu Police Camp.
Chikuwa who was remanded out of prison is charged with both theft and unlawful entry.
The State said on February 2 at around 9pm at Chivhu Police camp, Chikuwa took advantage of the absence of the complainant who is his workmate and unlawfully entered into her room and stole a Gtel 718 Explora plus cellphone, serial number 3559120331599 and went away unnoticed.
A mobile tracking system by G-tel Harare led to the recovery of the cellphone from Cleopas Maburutse. Maburutse said he bought the phone at Seke fly over and Police went there and he identified Tinei Tagwada as the man who sold him the phone.
Tagwada in turn said he bought the phone w from a Police officer whom he described. On April, 3 Tagwada came to Chivhu Police station for statement recording and upon arrival he saw Chikuwa standing near the door of the administration and identified him as the person who sold him the phone.
The value of the stolen property is $300 and was recovered.
