GWANDA – Gwanda Magistrate Mark Dzira described Jabulani Khanye (32) who is also a Bishop in the Johane Masowe Apostolic Sect as a false prophet after convicting and sentencing him to 20 years in prison for raping an 11-year-old patient.
The court heard that Khanye was asked to cleanse the homestead of the complainant's grandmother and after doing the work, he was given the minor to take for a wife as payment.
He then raped the minor and the matter was reported to the Police.
Both the accused and the complainant reside in Bhalagwe Village in Maphisa under Matopo District. The court heard that both the accused and complainant go to the same church.
Sometime in November 2016 at around 8pm at Bhalagwe village Khanye visited the complainant's homestead because he had an appointment with the juvenile's grandmother who requested him to pray for the girl.
The grandmother awakened the juvenile and left her with Khanye in the kitchen as she went back to sleep.
After praying for her, the complainant stood up and Khanye tripped her to the ground and had sexual intercourse with her. The little girl screamed but the grandmother did not respond to her.
After the incident the complainant told her granny but she took no action and she then told her friend leading to a Police report.
However, Samukeliso Ndiweni told the court that her husband did not rape the juvenile but instead he was given the girl as a token of appreciation after Khanye had assisted the elderly woman with some cleansing.
Magistrate Dzira said he was disappointed by both the bishop and the grandmother's behaviour. He described the Bishop as one of the false prophets mentioned in the bible.
"You are one of the false prophets that are recorded in the bible. You have degraded a girl to a goat or chicken. Even though the church allows you to marry many women you can only marry adults.
Therefore you are guilty as charged. I sentence you to 20 years in prison and two are suspended on condition of good behaviour," said Dzira.
