    Soldiers bash Policeman for wearing camouflage

    CHIKOMBA – There was commotion in Chivhu on Thursday last week when alleged members of the Zimbabwe National Army bashed and injured an off-duty Police officer who they spotted wearing a pair of camouflaged short.
    Constable Philani Matema who is based at Sadza Growth Point was assaulted by three soldiers who are suspected to be from Harare and the incident happened at Pick and Pay Supermarket last Thursday.
    Matema referred all questions to his bosses but confirmed that he was injured. He sustained swollen legs and face due to the assault.
    Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza said he did not receive any information pertaining to the issue.
    The soldiers who assaulted him were allegedly in Army uniforms and jumped off from an Army truck.
    It is understood that Matema lost $80 in the melee and after assaulting him, the soldiers took off along Harare Road.
    Matema who was left sprawling on the ground teamed up with colleagues and used another car to follow the soldiers but they ran away after the soldiers allegedly produced a gun when they caught up with them.news
