GWERU – Politicians, particularly Zanu PF politburo members are the ring leaders of violence at mining sites where an estimated 12 people have been killed so far in different incidences, the Minister of State for the Midlands Province, Jason Machaya has said.
He said Midlands tops the rest of the provinces in terms of violence at mines where people physically fight each other in a bid to win ownership of mining rights.
Machaya said this at the Gweru Zanu PF Conference Center during this year's first Provincial Developmental Coordinating Committee meeting. Giving his report for 2017 he said that it is Government wish to meet the one million tonnes target of gold in the mining sector but there are challenges encountered.
"It has come to the attention of Government that Midlands is topping the list of violent murderers using machetes. Over a dozen people have lost their lives and many have been seriously injured," Said Machaya
Machaya said a committee has been set up to look into the issue and all political leaders who are master-minders of the killings will be brought to book.
