ARTWELL WIKIREFU - A senior prison officer at Mutimurefu is said to be on the run after a church prophecy allegedly exposed his statutory rape on a Form One juvenile.
The accused (name supplied) allegedly raped the 13-year-old who is a daughter of a former officer-in-charge. Masvingo Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said that he would check the matter with Police from the rural department.
Sources told The Mirror that Sergeant Trymore Ruzane who is based at Mutimurefu Prison was arrested over the matter by Masvingo Police last week and released on the trust that he is a prison officer.   He was ordered to report to the Police station the following day but sources said this was the last that was seen of him. Zimbabwe Prison Correctional Services (ZPCS) Spokesperson for Masvingo-Midlands Sergeant Rizive Jere Mberi said he has not received a formal report on the matter.
"It is something that I have only seen on Whatsapp, I am not sure if he is on the run," said Mberi.
A well-placed source said the matter came to light when the minor was refused entry at the gates of a well-known Church.
"She was told to confess her sins before being allowed in and that is when she spilled the beans confessing her sexual intimacy with the prison officer since February this year. After confession the story came to the attention of church elders as well as her parents who then reported the matter to Masvingo Rural Police station," alleged the source.
The suspect was summoned to the Police Station, questioned and told to report to the station the following day.
"That was the last day Ruzane was seen in Masvingo, now his whereabouts are not known and he is no longer reporting for duty," said the prison officer who could not be named for fear of reprisals.crime news
