MWENEZI – A man from Nhatarikwa Village in Chiundura has been jailed for 24 months after he used an okapi knife to rob a service station attendant of two cell phones.
The incident happened at Exel Filling Station on Saturday.
Webster Nhatarikwa (26) appeared before Mwenezi Magistrate Honesty Musiiwa on Mondayand he pleaded guilty to the charge. Musiiwa suspended four months of the sentence and left Nhatarikwa to serve an effective 20 months imprisonment.
Nhatarikwa who was unrepresented told the court that he robbed in order to get money for bus fare after he get lost.
Prosecutor Patience Mutsikwi said on April 7, 2017 around 1400 hours Leah Mungate was at work at Exel filling station at Rutenga in Mwenezi when she was approached by Nhatarikwa who demanded cash from her.
"Nhatarikwa withdrew an okapi knife from his pocket and pointed it on the Mungate's chest. He grabbed two cellphones and ran away when Mungate's workmates started charging towards him," said Mutsikwi.
He was the arrested the following day at Shingirirai village in Rutenga by members of Police dog section who were in Mwenezi for by-elections after a follow up.crime news
