MWENEZI – The Zimbabwe Diabetes Association (ZDA) has launched a branch in Mwenezi.
The new branch will look at the interests of people affected by diabetes throughout Mwenezi District. The branch was set up last Thursday at a meeting held at Neshuro District Hospital and prominent Mwenezi businessman Michael Hlungwani was elected chairman and his deputy is Edson Mare.
Speaking after the launch, Francis Chikohori a ZDA board member responsible for restructuring said the formation of the branch was necessitated by the fact that Masvingo Province was lagging behind in terms of issues concerning diabetes.
"We are conducting this exercise in all districts in Masvingo Province. So far we have done this exercise in Gutu and Masvingo District at Morgenster Hospital. We are going to be launching theses chapters in all the remaining districts and after that we will form a Masvingo provincial executive," said Chikohori.
Winfrid Zinyoro was elected secretary, Edward Moyo treasurer, Rafina Taruvinga registrar. Speaking in an interview Hlungwani said he was happy to lead such an association and pledged to work hard despite that it is voluntary work.
"We have learnt great things during the formation of the association that a person can survive with diabetes as long he or she follows what is required of him or her.
"The association raises diabetes awareness in Mwenezi and facilitates treatment for those diagnosed with the disease," said Hlungwani. news
